Abstract
The
atmospheric ozone (O3) is a small ingredient of the air with strong
influence on the environment which can be positive or negative. One
distinguishes stratospheric ozone and tropospheric ozone. The first one absorbs
considerable amount of the strong ultraviolet (UV) sun radiation, thus
preserving the life on the planet Earth. It also regulates the thermal regime
of the lower stratosphere.
This article
is devoted to the description and explanation of various problems related to
the atmospheric ozone: photochemistry, depletion and formation of the so called
“ozone hole”, biological influence of O3 on the people (skin and
ayes diseases)) etc.
The history of
the O3-investigations and the O3-monitoring as a global
problem is also discussed.
