European
Roots of Bulgarian Physics Penka Lazarova, Alexander Vavrek (Abstact)
The beginning of the 19th century marked the start of the
Bulgarian National Revival. A number of Bulgarian intellectual leaders became
active in bringing and spreading physical knowledge, information and
understanding from Europe to Bulgaria.
In 1888 the first Bulgarian Higher School of Education (later Sofia
University) was founded in Sofia. The following year, the Department of Physics
and Mathematics started operating there too.
There are many noteworthy figures in the history of physical sciences and
education in Bulgaria and all of them are connected with Europe in some way or
another – studies, specializations, research, etc. They put the basic
fundamentals of the physical science trends in Bulgaria by transmitting and
using in practice the most important essentials of the European scientific
traditions and physical knowledge. Thanks
to these intellectuals, today we have well-educated and excellent physicists.
They have constant relationships and useful collaborations with their colleagues
from research institutes, universities and scientific communities from all over
the world. |
