Media in the Process of Globalization
Petranka Fileva

(Abstact)

The globalization is a dynamic process of social transformation, characterised with greater than ever volume of economic internationalisation and transnational communication. The media are actively involved in this process simultaneously as transmission, industry and power. That is why the communication science has to analize the development of the media industry and to follow up the social effect from the structural changes that go on.

The aim of this article is to focus on the question how media are involved in the process of globalization and what is the feedback. In order to clarify the interrrelationships it is a search for a comparison in terms of time, space and dimensions and characterictics of change. There is an argument that the classical contradiction between power and money in the media field is developing on a global level. The scientific instruments of media economics are used to prove it. The subordinate position of media economics as to communication science gives the opportunity to seek a balance between the economic aims and the public role of the
media organizations.
