EuroScience Open Forums provide the only Europe-wide opportunity for everyone working in or with an interest in research to meet and debate the direction that European research is taking, and the issues that research raises.

ESOF 2008 PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME ANNOUNCED AT THE AAAS ANNUAL MEETING IN BOSTON

ESOF AAAS Reception

ESOF 2008 had a strong presence at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world´s largest scientific gathering.

On Friday, ESOF 2008 sponsored the annual Eureka Alert press reception. ESOF staff and committees members mingled informally with some 300 journalists.

ESOF AAAS Stand

Tiziana Della Ragione, ESOF 2008 programme coordinator, met hundreds of participants at the ESOF 2008 stand in the Exhibition Hall and over tapas and wine discussed the programme highlights, registration procedures and the joys of coming to Barcelona!

On Saturday afternoon the ESOF 2008 preliminary programme was launched to both AAAS participants and media representatives.

Europe is home to some of the world’s leading researchers in the sciences and humanities,” said ESOF 2008 Co-Chair Ingrid Wünning Tschol, who is also Head of Science at Robert Bosch Stiftung in Stuttgart, Germany. “Barcelona’s growing recognition as a leading player in bio technology and biomedicine, together with its dynamic reputation in the arts and architecture, makes it the perfect choice as the platform to present and discuss the importance and relevance of their work,” she added.

ESOF AAAS Chairs

Programme Committee chair Sir Colin Berry told the audience that ESOF 2008 would be a relevant and thought provoking event.

“The programme at ESOF 2008 will closely reflect the major trends emerging in European science, the trends that are likely to have a major impact on some of the world´s most pressing issues such as climate change, energy security, cloning and stem cell research.”
