Torino, 2 December, 2009

***Registrations and Fees

***Registrations to ESOF2010 will start on 15 January 2010.
Meanwhile, the official fees have been announced: see http://www.esof2010.org/registrations for details. In order to encourage students’ and young researchers’ participation, registrants under 35 will be able to attend at a substantially discounted rate. We are currently discussing further discount options for teachers and groups.

***Volunteers and Explainers Programme

***The success of ESOF2010 will also rely on the enthusiasm and commitment of its volunteers. The ESOF2010 Volunteers Programme aims to involve national and international volunteers interested in science and willing to give their personal contribution in terms of logistic and technical support. Candidates will be able to apply on line from 16 December 2009.
The Explainers Programme is devoted to University students, who will be asked to serve as guides in the Science and City Programme. The Explainers Programme is addressed mainly to local students, but everybody is welcome!

***Programme Update

***ESOF2010 Call for Proposals was very successful: 394 projects were submitted, and organizers hailed from 35 different countries throughout the world. The Scientific Programme received 218 proposals, Science in the City (our outreach programme) had 79, the Career Programme 51 and the Science to Business Programme 46. More than 1000 researchers and experts have been contacted by organizers as potential speakers.
In the past months, the evaluation committees have worked hard to select the best projects. As of today, 93 proposals have been selected in the Scientific Programme, 43 in Science in the City, 23 in the Career Programme, and 19 in the Science to Business Programme. Overall, ESOF2010 will host approximately 150 sessions, with 500 speakers.
The daily timetable of the event has also been decided: see http://www.esof2010.org/programme
For information on the programmes, please contact Luigi Civalleri, civalleri@esof2010.org

***Exhibition and Sponsorship menus

***The ESOF2010 Exhibition and Sponsorship menus are now available. The Sponsorship menu lists various opportunities for brand visibility and activities to be developed within the event. In the Exhibition menu you will find all information needed to participate in the Research&Innovation Exhibition. Torino will be a perfect venue to present your products and services, as ESOF2010 aims at attracting a diverse audience from all scientific disciplines, journalists, policy-makers, science communicators, and managers. Do not miss the opportunity of becoming an ESOF2010 partner or exhibitor!

***Speed Dating

The ESOF2010 European Research&Business Speed Dating is a partnering event organised in co-operation with the Torino and the Piemonte Chambers of Commerce in the framework of the Enterprise Europe Network. The event is focused on companies, universities, technology centres, research and development institutes looking for technological solutions and searching for partners. The one to one meetings are primarily aimed at encouraging the building of consortia to participate to projects co-financed by the 7 Framework Programme (FP7). When registering, you may express your interest in participating.
For information on the event, please contact Cristiana Moretti, moretti@esof2010.org

***Pizza with the Prof

Building on the success of similar events in past ESOF editions, Pizza with the Prof will allow future and young researchers to meet successful scientists to discuss science, scientific careers, science policy and the science and society relationship, in the relaxing atmosphere of an informal lunch. When registering, you may express your interest in participating.
For information on the event, please contact Isabella Susa, susa@esof2010.org

***School Programme

***ESOF2010 has launched the competition “What can science do for society?” (http://www.esof2010.org/school/competition). We encourage High School students to approach science in a creative way, asking them to produce a video clip focused on the role of science in contemporary society. The competition will take place in Italy and in Catalonia, thanks to the support of the FCRI (Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació).
ESOF2010 strongly encourage the dissemination of the Competition in other European areas: if you are interested in handling the Competition in your Country please contact Alessia Dino, dino@esof2010.org

***ESOF2010 website is growing

***Our website www.esof2010.org has been revamped! In the Home page we included two new areas to emphasize main news and relevant content. The main menu has been reorganised to improve the accessibility. Most importantly, the site has been integrated with some of the most popular social networks: Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and Google friend connect. In a few days the links will be available directly from the home page – we invite you to use these tools and spread the information to your contacts.

Season's greetings and best wishes for a happy New Year!
The ESOF2010 Project Team
