·         Fundamental studies in bio-electrocatalysis, direct electron transfer enzyme catalyzed redox reactions;

·         Engineering of biosensors based on electrochemical detection of direct electron transfer, enzyme sensor for direct detection of substrates of enzymes expressing bio-electrocatlytic properties and enzyme-labeled immunoassay sensors with direct electron transfer detection of enzyme labels; development of the assay format and system engineering of biosensor devices;

·         DNA sensors, enzyme labeled DNA assay and electrochemical approaches for DNA and RNA direct assay; arrangement of DNA sensing schemes in disposable and flow-through formats;

·         Bio-fuel cells based on enzyme-catalyzed direct electron transfer, technologies enabling micro- and bio-fel cell designs and biomimetic approaches in materials design;

·         Non-traditional electrocatalysts for fuel cells: non-platinum electrocatalysts and synthetic routes for their manufacturing;

·         Technologies enabling the design and implementation of miniature and micro power sources and sensors, conformal electronics and digital printing techniques.
