Academician Georgi Nadjakov  – patriarch of  Bulgarian physics

The article presents academician Georgi Nadjakov, known as the “patriarch of the Bulgarian physics”, as a person and from the point of view of his activity.

The activities of G. Nadjakov as a professor and an associate professor in experimental physics, as a head of the chair of experimental physics and director of the Institute of Physics in Sofia University, have resulted in increased quality of the university education and research in the field of physics in Bulgaria. His scientific-organizational work for improving the scientific equipment and apparatus of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in Sofia University, as well as for establishing of a Тechnical High School in Sofia, is also highlighted.

As academician and vice-president of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, G. Nagjakov is a founder of the Institute of Physics in the Academy and also has great merits for the development of nuclear science in Bulgaria.

His main scientific research interests were in the field of Solid State Physics. He is internationally renowned as the discoverer of the photo-electret state of matter, which is a great success not only for Bulgaria but also for the world science as a whole due to the numerous applications of the discovery.

            Notice is also given to the Bulgarian, as well as international acknowledgements for the contributions of G. Nadjakov in the field of university education, scientific research in Physics and his scientific-organizational and social activities.
