Scientific Activity, Scholarly Journals and Scientific Community

Borislav V. Toshev

Abstract

The paper considers three main problems of the science policy: i) what does scientific activity mean; ii) what is the system of the scholarly journals and what is their role for the development of the science process; iii) what is the structure of the scientific community. The scientific activity is explained on the ground of Kuhn’s concept of the normal science and its paradigms. The system of the scholarly journals is developed in two levels: the first level includes the primary research journals with closer or wider readers’ audience; the secondary journals where the papers of the primary journals are indexed and abstracted build the second level. The role of these two-level- scientific system for the advancement of science is commented in detail. Some rules for writing a successful scientific paper are pointed out and they are expected to be of use for the prospective researchers.  At the end some elements of the sociology of the scientific community are presented.
